I am visualising a bad, bad headline about getting very, very excited about logo design using Paul's last name, but I am not going there.
Paul Rand was an American art director and graphic designer, inducted into the New York Art Directors Club Hall of Fame in 1972. I didn't know Art Directors even had Halls of Fame, but that doesn't stop me from thinking this is pretty impressive. Rand is famous for his timeless logo designs for IBM, UPS, Enron, ABC, and NeXT (good god!!).
Here's a great article about making quality design the hero in any logo work that you do. I'll be tucking this away for when we finalise that elusive new brand name.
